San Juan, Puerto Rico – Invest Puerto Rico (InvestPR), the island’s business attraction organization, recently hosted a familiarization tour (Fam Tour) for site selectors and companies evaluating Puerto Rico as a premier destination for expansion and investment. As global companies reassess their operational strategies in response to evolving market conditions, this initiative highlights the island’s unique advantages as a cost-effective, strategic location within the United States.
The tour brought together corporate decision-makers and site selection experts from Mexico, Slovenia, and the United States, providing them firsthand exposure to Puerto Rico’s thriving business ecosystem. Participants engaged with key industry leaders, government officials, and business executives to gain valuable insights into the island’s robust biosciences, advanced manufacturing, and technology sectors.
“This tour provided a firsthand look at the many factors that make Puerto Rico an ideal investment destination for global companies looking to scale their operations,” said Ella Woger-Nieves, CEO of InvestPR. Familiarization tours are a key practice in economic development, allowing site selectors and investors to explore a region’s unique advantages, build trust, and generate interest—often leading to new investment and job creation.
“Puerto Rico offers an unparalleled value proposition for companies navigating today’s complex economic landscape. As a U.S. jurisdiction with a highly skilled bilingual workforce, a unique tax structure, and more than 70 years of manufacturing expertise, the island presents a strategic alternative for businesses seeking stability, operational efficiency, and long-term growth,” Woger added.
During the tour, participants visited leading companies and institutions that exemplify Puerto Rico’s evolving business landscape. This included Prime Air Corp, Cytolmmune Therapeutics, Boston Scientific, Molecular Science and Research Center (MSRC), and Parallel18, where they gained deep insights into Puerto Rico’s advanced operational capabilities, thriving research and development initiatives, and a business-friendly environment.
Participants also engaged with key government and economic development agencies, including the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) and PRIDCO, to further explore the island’s comprehensive incentive programs, workforce availability, and strategic advantages.
Recognizing the pivotal role of talent in business success, the delegation also toured the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras and the Polytechnic University in Hato Rey, gaining valuable knowledge of Puerto Rico’s highly skilled workforce and its research and innovation capabilities.
Sebastián Negrón Reichard, secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC), explained that as industries reevaluate supply chains and operational strategies, Puerto Rico positions itself as an attractive solution for companies looking to maintain a seamless U.S. market access.
“Puerto Rico is positioning itself as a strategic destination for investment and business expansion amid potential shifts in global trade policies. Through this Familiarization Tour, we are showcasing the island’s competitive advantages to Site Selectors and interested companies, including our access to the U.S. market, attractive tax incentives, and highly skilled workforce. Now more than ever, Puerto Rico represents a solid and viable option for companies seeking stability and growth within U.S. territory,” said Negrón.
